Online volunteering opportunities with Construction Youth Trust!

Blog Post

Construction Youth Trust want YOU to help inspire young people about the incredible breadth of roles available in the construction and built environment sector!

This year, LABC has teamed up with Construction Youth Trust for the #BuildingAspirations campaign, which celebrates the role of professional volunteers acting as relatable role models in industry for the younger generation.

As part of their Schools Partnership programme the Trust delivers a range of inspirational employability and careers sessions that develop young people’s skills and connect them to professionals in industry. In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, these sessions have all been adapted to suit online delivery and from September the Trust will be reaching out to LABC and the construction industry to get involved and virtually volunteer!

We want the next generation to know that there is a place for them in our industry and the opportunity to engage with someone they can relate to, who has discovered that a rewarding industry career is not only inspirational but can be vital in shaping a young person’s career decisions.

If you are, or you know, someone at the start of their construction or building control career Construction Youth Trust would be particularly interested to hear from you.

The online sessions have given our students a daily purpose. The sessions reinforce the skills the pupils need in the future and have also got them thinking and talking about their career goals again.

As part of the sessions volunteers will share their career experience, introduce the range of roles instrumental within building control (answering live questions about this integral area of construction), and give advice and guidance about the skills and qualities employers look for in potential employees.

Meaningful employer encounters at an early stage significantly increase a young person’s future career prospects and reduce their chances of becoming unemployed. By connecting young people to relatable role models in industry, the Trust wants to remove their preconceptions and stereotypes surrounding construction careers and replace them with a more modern, accurate image; an inclusive and diverse industry.
