Construction Youth Trust launch free resources to inspire young people - and you can help!
The Construction Youth Trust have just launched a set of resources that will allow construction professionals to help students overcome barriers and encourage them to take up a career in construction.
Just 9% of young people would consider a construction job, according to figures published by housing association L&Q in 2019, and any initiatives aimed at encouraging students into a career in construction (and building control) are badly needed.
The Construction Youth Trust's 'Contextualised Curriculum', funded by CITB (Construction Industry Training Board), is a free to download set of session plans, worksheets and resources which professionals and teachers can use to deliver engaging sessions in schools on the subject of construction and construction-related skills.
Content of the Contextualised Curriculum
There's a 'How to' guide with valuable advice on how to find the right school, make the right contacts in the school and take the session. It also answers many other questions for those who haven't had previous experience of this sort of thing.
Session subjects include:
- An overview of construction and work experience
- Maths-related subjects - business finance, costing, measuring in 3D and more
- Science-related subjects - tunnels, sources of electricity etc
- Construction careers advice - CV advice, the STAR technique etc
Find out how you can help widen young people's horizons
