Alder Hey Children’s Health Park wins at the 2016 LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Final

AHCHP Prescot Road in Liverpool, was awarded the title of Best Public Service Building at the Grand Final of the LABC Building Excellence Awards – one of the most recognised events on the building industry’s calendar.

A panel of industry experts judged a list of the highest quality projects from around England and Wales to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design. The Alder Hey project combines state-of-the-art clinical functionality with a striking new identity that meets the NHS trust’s vision to recast Alder Hey Children’s Hospital as a health park.

LABC’s Chief Executive Paul Everall said: “Congratulations to Laing O’Rourke Construction North, BDP, Alder Hey (Special Purpose Vehicle Ltd) and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Trust on a truly well-deserved award. Excellent communication and relationships with Liverpool City Council Building Control were paramount to the success of this project.”

“Our Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity for the industry to celebrate good practice. Our winners demonstrate how positive working relationships with local authority building control teams achieves high quality, sustainable buildings. Our awards are unique because they recognise how this cooperation improves building standards and professionalism across the industry.”

Ian Cleveland, Area Surveyor/Major Projects at Liverpool City Council said; “As far as building control is concerned the project ticks all the boxes from regulations to sustainability and usability. The project met all of the requirements of the design brief and more than satisfied the client’s aspirations.”         

The Grand Final of the LABC Building Excellence Awards took place on Monday 28 November 2016 at the Westminster Park Plaza in London and was hosted by TV presenter Nick Knowles, best known for his work on DIY SOS. Over 700 building industry professionals including contractors, architects and engineers attended the celebration to find out which projects won across the 15 hotly contested categories.

They highlight innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism that leads to safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.
