Swansea Building Control gains Fire Safety Specialist assessments full house
All eight members of the building control team at Swansea City Council have successfully passed LABC's Fire Safety Specialist validation, making them the first such team to get a 'full house'.
The rigorous assessment is independently verified by the Institution of Fire Engineers and a pass in the written exam opens up membership of the Institution for successful entrants if they choose to take it.
Peter Richards, Swansea's Building Control Manager, said, "I am delighted to say that all eight of my team have passed the fire safety assessment with flying colours. I believe we're the first local authority in the country where every building control officer has gained this status.
"Fire safety is vital and we are focussing on ensuring that all buildings where Swansea Council Building Control is involved are safe. My entire team have all now been independently assessed to show their competence in dealing with all the complexities of fire safety. I hope this helps to reassure people that Swansea Council is taking fire safety seriously and have skilled and capable officers who can advise and assist or intervene when necessary."
