LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024 winner: Best Residential Conversion or Alteration to an Existing Home
The LABC Grand Finals 2024 took place on Friday 24 January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. A celebration recognising excellent projects and individual contributions within the construction industry.
A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Residential Conversion or Alteration to an Existing Home is East Lodge, Lancaster.
East Lodge, a Grade II listed building, set in the heart of Lancashire, had fallen into disrepair until it was rescued by MH Stainton Homes. After extensive consultation with the Local Authority Conservation Team, the decision was made to restore and extend the building into a modern home. The original Lodge was carefully restored, with new floors, refurbished windows, and lime mortar repointing. The project successfully transformed the derelict building into a modern home while preserving its heritage.
Restoring a Listed Building while adding a new extension requires immense teamwork. Lancaster City Council provided essential support in ensuring Building Regulations were met within the constraints of Listed Building Approval.
Looking ahead, LABC remains committed to working together to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in construction, continuing to drive progress and excellence across the sector.
