A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.
LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of Best Non-residential Extension, Alteration, or Conversion is St. Mary’s Surgery, Cambridgeshire.
Located in the cathedral city of Ely, St Mary’s is a project with sustainability at its heart. The partial demolition and extension of St. Mary's GP Surgery has not only transformed the building's appearance but also greatly improved its functionality, sustainability, and usability. The extension uses energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials, and innovative construction techniques to reduce its carbon footprint, benefiting the environment and ensuring long-term cost savings for the NHS, making a positive impact on both the community and the environment.
The East Cambridgeshire District Council building control team and site team have worked seamlessly together throughout the St Mary’s project, ensuring smooth coordination and effective resolution of fire protection strategies. Regular meetings allowed for open communication streams and enabled the site team to quickly address any fire safety concerns. With valuable input from the architect and fire consultant, the building control team were able to provide essential guidance on the installation of fire barriers and other safety measures. This close collaboration meant all fire protection requirements were met, enhancing the overall safety and success of the project.
Looking ahead, LABC remains committed to working together to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in construction, continuing to drive progress and excellence across the sector.
