LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024 winner: Best Small Social Housing Development

The LABC Grand Finals 2024 took place on Friday 24 January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. A celebration recognising excellent projects and individual contributions within the construction industry.

A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of Best Small Social Housing Development is Albion Street, West Sussex.

Set on a busy coastal road in the heart of Brighton, Albion Street is an ambitious project involving the rebuild and refurbishment of two derelict properties to create six new homes for Adur Homes and its emergency housing portfolio.

The collaboration between the Adur & Worthing Building Control Partnership team and site teams was exemplary throughout the project. As the buildings had previously been an HMO, they required a full strip-back to their bare skeleton, which revealed several fire safety concerns that needed to be addressed. Both teams worked closely together to identify and resolve these issues, ensuring that life safety standards were met and even exceeded. Their proactive communication and joint problem-solving approach were crucial in making sure that all regulatory requirements were successfully achieved.
