How do I become a building control surveyor?
By choosing to join LABC you’re choosing a competitive salary, fully funded level 4 and 5 qualifications, fully funded professional body membership with CABE, CIOB, and RICS but most importantly you’re choosing to be part of a team that share your values of public safety, public protection, and environmentally conscious practice.
Once you’ve made it through the recruitment process, you’ll become part of a large team of new recruits who’ll be going through the same learning, mentoring, on the job experiences and competency assessments.
First, you’ll take part in our onboarding programme where you’ll meet the whole LABC team before joining one of our local authority teams where you’ll have a local induction and be assigned a dedicated on-the-job mentor who’ll guide you through a structured mentoring programme.
In June 2024 you’ll start your fully funded learning programme, beginning with Level 4 and then moving up to Level 5. Each week you’ll have a learning day (delivered virtually) with your fellow trainees and the qualification tutor for your online workshops. You’ll also have a study day each week where you’ll revise learning, research, prepare for your assignments and work on your professional portfolio logbook.
The rest of the week you’ll spend under the supervision of competent surveyors from your local authority building control team who’ll talk and walk you through everything you need to know and do in your role as a trainee building control surveyor. This on-the-job learning will give you the experience needed to apply your learning and work towards proving your competence and registering as a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
As you grow and gain the right levels of experience and confidence, you’ll become eligible to take the fully funded building control competency validation assessments and become a Registered Building Inspector.
