LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024 winner: Best Residential Extension

Press Release

The LABC Grand Finals 2024 took place on Friday 24 January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. A celebration recognising excellent projects and individual contributions within the construction industry.

A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Residential Extension is Alveston, Bath.

The project of Alveston, a 1960s bungalow set in the agricultural village of Clutton, Bath has sustainability at its forefront. This is demonstrated by its design and through the implementation of a solar-powered system, air source heat pump, underfloor heating, and extensive insulation, all to reduce emissions of the property. Built using sustainable materials like oak gables and trusses, the Alveston project highlights local craftsmanship, with most suppliers sourced from the BANES area. The thoughtful design includes eco-friendly features like soakaways for improved drainage and reclaimed bricks from the historic Clutton brickwork.

The LABC public service building control team from Bath and North East Somerset Council have demonstrated great communication throughout the project. From the initial submission of plans to the final sign-off, the team provided invaluable support at every stage. This development has been described as a true partnership approach, with the team’s assistance exceeding expectations.

Looking ahead, LABC remains committed to working together to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in construction, continuing to drive progress and excellence across the sector.
