David Gipp of D.G.Building (East Cambs) Ltd wins at 2018 LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Final
David Gipp of D.G. Building was awarded the title of Best Local Builder or Traditional Craftsperson at the LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals – one of the most recognised events on the building industry’s calendar.
A panel of industry experts judged a list of the highest quality projects and teams from around England and Wales to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design.
D.G. Building was recommended for this prestigious award by the Building Control team at East Cambridgeshire District Council.
LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall said: "When local builders are nominated for our awards it really demonstrates what they're about."
"Our Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity for the industry to celebrate good practice. Our winners demonstrate how positive working relationships with local council building control teams achieve high quality, sustainable buildings.
"Our awards are unique because they recognise how this cooperation improves building standards and professionalism across the industry."
D.G. Building undertook a variety of projects in the preceding year but Director David Gipp was particularly commended for one particular new-build site where he and his team overcame a number of challenges, including having no mains gas supply and opting to use air source heat pumps to provide a more eco-friendly heat source to the new dwelling.
The site also had no local connection for foul waste and, after research and negotiation with the LABC Building Control team, the chosen solution was a vortex treatment plant that treats and transfers the waste in to a local water course.
Nigel Harper from East Cambridgeshire Building Control said "probably the most notable aspect of their operation is their ability to ‘punch above their weight’ as a small company, competing with companies twice their size, and tendering for projects that are beneficial to the local community such as industrial units and new housing – very impressive for a family run SME builder".
The judges were impressed by this builder’s exceptionally thorough approach, and excellent working relationship with their local LABC partners. They value long-term relationships with local subcontractors, have a good range of work and their reputation is growing from strength to strength.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals took place on Friday 9 November 2018 at the Westminster Park Plaza in London and was hosted by Dead Ringers star, comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw.
860 building industry professionals including contractors, architects and engineers attended the celebration to find out which projects won across the 15 hotly contested categories.
