The LABC Grand Finals 2024 took place on Friday 24 January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. A celebration recognising excellent projects and individual contributions within the construction industry.

A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of Public Service Superstar is David Pratt, Derbyshire Building Control Partnership.

Since joining DBCP, David has built a culture of development, introducing an apprenticeship scheme and empowering staff through hands-on training. Leading by example, he completed Level 6 courses with distinction and offers guidance to employees, encouraging their professional growth. His integrity and leadership have made DBCP a desirable workplace, with a resilient team able to step into the various roles required of a public service building control team. David’s open-door policy and commitment to his staff are key reasons why employees stay at DBCP.

Effective communication is a top priority for David, keeping staff informed through regular emails and updating them on Derbyshire Building Control Partnership policies, LABC, and government changes. Over the past year, David has been especially focused on supporting employees through the validation process, offering guidance and assistance in their journey to registration. David shared that his proudest achievements are bringing new trainees on board, providing them with a clear path to becoming building inspectors, and helping to develop the next generation of building inspectors for DBCP.

Looking ahead, LABC remains committed to working together to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in construction, continuing to drive progress and excellence across the sector.
