Solid wall Detail at lintel

Sold wall lintel detail

This junction can account for up to 26% of heat loss through thermal bridging, so it is critical the metal lintel is isolated from the external wall to minimise heat loss through the structure.

There are six different construction details you can use, each one having unique Psi values based on the insulation type and block type. So, not only is it important to position the materials exactly as the detail but it is crucial that the specified materials are used (even if they are not in stock at the builder’s merchant).

  • In certain situations, the lintel may also require fire resistance
  • Ensure that a 3mm thick lintel is available for the required opening width
  • A flexible sealant should be used between all interfaces of the internal air barrier and the window / door frame members
  • Window and door openers should be carefully dimensioned to accommodate projection of insulation over frame
  • Ensure block face is kept clean of mortar snots and other debris during construction to allow a tight fit of external wall insulation
  • Reliance on effective weather proofing around openings should not be placed on mastic sealants alone and agreement for solutions should be sought from both building control and warranty providers prior to installation.
