Prestigious award for LABC learning and development
LABC’s Learning and Development Team has walked off with a silver award at the 2020 international Learning Awards – organised by the Learning and Performance Institute.
The award for the public sector People Development Programme of the Year saw some stiff competition from organisations such as the BBC, Cabinet Office and the police. The award is presented to public sector or not-for-profit enterprises that implement proactive, large-scale people development programmes that result in demonstrable performance improvements.
According to the Institute each entrant must show "evidence of innovation, effective needs analysis and verification, learner and sponsor support, client satisfaction, sustained organisational impact and a strong proposition in response to the challenge 'what sustained impact did it make on the overall performance of the staff within the enterprise or organisation?'"
The judges said, "LABC’s people development programme has addressed a significant need during a challenging time for the industry… The programme has the flexibility to support learners through formal qualifications, as well as providing informal learning opportunities, ensuring upskilling is accessible for all in Building Control.
"LABC has successfully demonstrated a clear impact on members' learning through competency based accreditation supported by a Virtual Learning Pathway."
LABC Chief Executive, Lorna Stimpson said, "I'm so proud of what we’ve achieved and of every single member of our brilliant Learning and Development team. The award recognises and celebrates the years of hard work developing our industry leading learning and development programmes. Our new approach truly makes a difference by helping new recruits and existing surveyors improve their knowledge and competence to better serve their communities and reflect the changes taking place in the industry.
"LABC is the driving force behind the establishment of a nationally recognised framework for measuring the competency of every professional working within building control.
"Finalists in the awards represent some of the most prestigious organisations across the public and private sectors – household names such as the BBC, Coca Cola, Santander, Tesco, Whitbread, Barclays and Lidl.
"To win in such elevated company is an amazing testimony to our Learning and Development team, working group, our partners CIOB and the University of Wolverhampton – and of course the whole LABC team that support everything we do."
