LABC welcome for levelling up focus of new Department

Commenting on last week’s cabinet reshuffle and the renaming of the MHCLG to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, LABC Chief Executive Lorna Stimpson said:

“LABC welcomes Michael Gove as the new Secretary of State – and the full agenda he faces should not be a surprise for him as an experienced minister. LABC worked closely with his predecessor and the ministerial team to help deliver the crucial reforms of building safety and regulations and anticipate this constructive relationship will continue under the new Secretary of State. We also welcome the focus on the levelling up agenda and are clear that has to mean there can’t be a building regulation system that leaves certain parts of the country still facing a ‘race to the bottom’ in building standards and regulation.”
