Hove beach huts - LABC Building Excellence Awards South East

Excellent construction was celebrated at the South East LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018 in Brighton on Friday 22 June 2018.

The venue was once again the beautiful Brighton Grand Hotel and this year's winners and highly commendeds were announced by LABC's Business Development Director Anna Thompson.

Around 350 people gleaned from the construction industry and local council building control attended this sparkling event, and were royally entertained by local five piece band Lipsticks and Beatniks as well as a roving caricaturist and magician.

Why do we hold the LABC Building Excellence Awards?

We believe that good and safe construction, built to building control standards, should be appreciated and we understand the technical challenges construction and design teams face. The LABC awards celebrate how these have been faced up to and overcome thanks to effective collaborative working, and our winners and highly commended projects and individuals were prime examples of how successful this can be.

Winners in the South East this year included The Depot, a brand new arthouse cinema in Lewes, an extension to South Borough Primary School in Maidstone and the conversion of Holy Trinity church in Hove into a state of the art medical centre.

LABC's Chief Executive Paul Everall said, "The awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the very best in construction in England and Wales, recognising the high level of quality and skill we can and do reach in the UK."

Representatives of Abbey Pynford, Actis, FMB, Home&Build, Jewson, LABC Acoustics, LABC Warranty, Planning Portal, Polypipe Terrain and Swiftclean presented trophies and certificates to the 15 winning and 7 highly commended projects and individuals.

The winners automatically go into the Grand Finals, which will be held on Friday 9 November at the Westminster Park Plaza in London.

More than £3,400 was raised for LABC President Chris Griffith-Jones' chosen charity, the Oracle Cancer Trust.
