East midlands LABC building excellence awards

The East Midlands is the latest region to host the annual LABC Building Excellence Awards. Finalists from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire were among more than 350 guests who attended the region’s awards on Friday 10 June at Athena in Leicester.

Former English Rugby Union player Graham Rowntree hosted the awards in which finalists are judged not on architectural beauty, but on the “excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. They celebrate the design and construction teams that, having tussled with technical issues and difficult sites, found innovative and creative solutions.

Representatives of FMB, Home&Build, InstaGroup, Jewson, Polypipe Terrain, TLX, LABC Acoustics and LABC Warranty presented the trophies and certificates to the 15 winning and six highly commended projects. Winners automatically go into the Grand Finals in London in November.

Paul Smith, Chair of the LABC East Midlands Region, said: “LABC has always been at the forefront in the provision of an outstanding building control service and remains dedicated to maintaining high standards of compliance, whilst offering an impartial service with an ethos that doesn’t have profit as the driving force.

“The LABC Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity for us all to celebrate the very best construction in the region, recognising the high level of skill and professionalism that the construction industry is capable of achieving.”

More than £2,000 was raised for LABC President Jayne Hall’s chosen charity YoungMinds, which is committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
