Government response to Grenfell Tower Inquiry report

The publication of the government's response marks another important milestone for the Grenfell bereaved and survivors. Our thoughts remain with them.

We welcome the Government’s acceptance of the Phase 2 recommendations in full, and its commitment to working with the sector to support the recruitment and training of more building inspectors, building on the work over the past two years which has seen 200 new building control surveyors brought into this vitally important public service role.

LABC has been working hard to transform the building control profession as part of the sector’s response to the new building safety regime, and we are pleased to see that the government recognises that huge progress has been made.

We welcome the creation of an independent panel to look at the future of building control and we are pleased to see the urgency that is being applied to this topic, with a report due by October 2025. We are fully committed to supporting this vitally important piece of work.

In the meantime, we will continue to contribute to improving competence, safety, and quality in the industry.
