CIC's new guide provides inspiration and advice on inclusive design
The Construction Industry Council (CIC) have published a new free inclusive design guide.
Entitled the 'Teaching and Learning Briefing Guide - 'Bringing inclusive design into built environment education', the guide's purpose is to illustrate key issues in terms of improving knowledge, skills and understanding in the creation of an accessible and inclusive built environment.
Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games which were hailed as the most accessible Games ever, the CIC hope to bring about 'better access and inclusion to everyone in in all our buildings and public spaces'.
Previous CIC guidance on inclusive design
This guide follows on from the publication in March 2017 of CIC’s ‘Essential Principles for Built Environment Professionals’ which set out six key principles to help all built environment professionals create and deliver an accessible and inclusive built environment.
Essential principles for achieving an inclusive environment
- Contribute to building an inclusive society now and in the future
- Apply professional and responsible judgement and take a leadership role
- Apply and integrate the principles of inclusive design from the outset of a project
- Do more than just comply with legislation and codes
- Seek multiple views to solve accessibility and inclusivity challenges
- Acquire the skills, knowledge, understanding and confidence to make inclusion the norm not the exception
