CCS develop digital system for fire door safety inspections

CCS fire door safety system

Cumbria-based company CCS (Contactless Check Solutions) has developed a data pin for fire doors that aims to make fire door inspections easier, faster and more accurate.

A pin containing a unique identifier is installed into the fire door - this can be done in the factory, or can be installed retrospectively.

A user can then scan the pin using a fire inspection app installed on their smartphone or tablet, giving them access to the door’s manufacturing and maintenance history in real time.

The app prompts the user to complete a checklist and take relevant, compulsory photos, and a relevant MOT style report is then sent for storage on the cloud. These records can then be accessed by building owners and managers giving them an overview of all the fire doors they manage.

The data is organised using a simple, consistent traffic light system, indicating compliance status, which it is hoped will make it easier for managers and building owners to comply with UK regulations.

The system was developed with the support of Made Smarter North West which helps small businesses make use of new technologies.

CCS believes this faster and more accurate digital solution could save up to 70% of the inspection time and cost and are in talks with major fire door manufacturers to have the pins pre-installed.
