LABC launched its independently verified quality management system earlier in January and 11 months later 186 local teams have joined the formal accreditation process.

Over three years in the making, the LABC Quality Management System is an independently audited approach to consistency and performance in local authority building control.

Following nationwide consultation, a set of standards and competencies was agreed and those authorities that sign up are now independently audited by Alcumus ISOQAR – an independently audited, UKAS accredited body.

Lorna Stimpson, LABC's Deputy Managing Director, said: "Our clients need to know that when they go from one building control team to another they'll get a consistent service and we wanted to show what we do already.

"We know that there are question marks about quality in the construction industry generally at the moment, and we wanted to be able to prove the quality of Local Authority Building Control.

"I am personally delighted so many of our local teams have signed up and passed the quality management process. But we haven’t finished yet with accreditation for more local teams in the pipeline.”
