Be part of the most significant change in construction in more than 30 years
The Building Safety Act 2022 sees the introduction of the most significant changes in the construction industry in more than 30 years.
The Act sets out a new and rigorous framework for design, construction and management of high-rise residential buildings, new professional standards for construction professionals along with improved redress for past construction failures.
The Act implements the recommendations of Dame Judith Hackitt’s report on building regulations and fire safety; sets up the new Building Safety Regulator; a new National Regulator for Construction Products and a New Homes Ombudsman, as well as, importantly, identifying improvements to competence of professionals and regulation of the industry.
The key change for the oversight of building control will be the introduction of a statutory register of all building control professionals. The registration process, which came into effect in October 2023, includes the requirement for every building control professional to prove their competence in order to gain a licence to practice. This will enhance the standing of building control and support raising standards in construction.
